Holistic Therapies

Holistic therapies are a mix of ancient practices from Egypt, China and India, all designed to bring harmony to the body, mind and spirit. They all follow the idea that ailments in the body must be treated as a whole, rather than as individual parts, to achieve true wellness and harmony. For a while, the benefits of holistic therapies were forgotten, but now many people are realising the power they hold to bring back physical and emotional balance. At Barefoot Therapies I follow many of these ancient principles to help my clients find peace and equilibrium.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a wonderful foot or hand treatment, making it accessible to everyone. It’s also known as ‘zone therapy’ because the feet can be divided into five ‘zones’, which are connected with the rest of your body. So when you work on a zone, you’re not just treating that area, but the whole area that zone is connected with, opening up vital energy pathways and ridding your body of toxins.

Many people find relief from headaches and migraines after reflexology treatments, as well as improvements in gut health and circulation, and effective stress relief. It has even helped relieve some of the more uncomfortable pregnancy symptoms and managed pain in labour! All of my reflexology treatments are carried out either sitting or lying down, wherever you’re more comfortable.

Massage

When was the last time you treated yourself to a massage?

Massage is one of those things that is so incredibly good for us, but not nearly enough of us make time for it. Regular massage reduces stress, boosts mental health, manages pain, improves immune function and can even improve your physical fitness.

At Barefoot Therapies I can provide a wide range of massage types depending on what you need, from a calming and relaxing aromatherapy massage using essential oils, to deep tissue massages aimed at working out tension in the deeper layers of your muscles.

Ear Candles

Ear candling has been used for thousands of years by native American tribes as a way to promote spiritual healing. While they may not have known it then, this practice can not only be used for relaxation and meditation, but it can also provide relief for hay fever, sinusitis, headaches, excess ear wax, and tinnitus, as well as improve general wellbeing.

During this treatment, a cotton Hopi candle infused with beeswax, chamomile, honey, vitamin A and other herbs is placed into your ear, and lit. The flame will draw air through your ear canal and create negative pressure, loosening earwax and improving airflow in your nose and sinuses. The whole treatment lasts around 15 minutes, and you’ll be left relaxed and with relief.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is the perfect way to reduce all of that stress that accumulates in the tissue, muscles and joints. Working only on your head, face, neck and shoulders, I use specialist techniques to relieve tension and relax the connective tissues. As well as being a great way to unwind, Indian head massage can also help improve insomnia, migraines, fatigue, sinus problems and, of course, stress.
